Two More Things for New Members to Consider
If you want to participate in regattas you will need to:-
1. Buy your own paddle. Club paddles are available for you to use at all times. These are however of a more robust design and tend not to be as streamlined or as efficient as some of the better racing paddles available. If you intend to do the sports for a couple of seasons or more you'll benefit greatly from purchasing your own paddle. Having the right length paddle for your body is very important for technique and to prevent injury. The club provides a basic Typhoon wooden paddle for new paddlers to use at training, these can be purchased for around $75. However the coaches encourage paddlers to invest in a carbon fibre paddle. These can be purchased for between $110 to $300. Please ask your coach for assistance. Paddles can be purchased online (check the links page), or Typhoon is usually present at regattas.
2. Purchase a Sandy Point race shirt. These are available through the club at a cost of $60.
